Exhibition Opening Schwer Aerophile – The Poetry of Flight

Sun, November 22, 2026, 12pm
Museum

How can we tap into that which exists within us but remains unexpressed? How can we access our imagination? What conditions allow us to preserve some mental breathing space in an efficiency-driven, ever-accelerating world that rarely takes a step back to reflect and has no time for the seemingly insignificant in-between moments?

The lightweight aerofoil-like structures, borrowed from aeroplane design, and the expansive, balancing objects by the Furtwangen-born artist Martin Schwer (b. 1962) appear to float, their volumes seemingly unfettered by mass or weight. Every attempt to categorise them raises new questions and opens our eyes to ‘the utterly different’. The intrinsic properties of the non-homogenous materials – wood and paper – play a major role in the creative process and yield intriguing deviations between constructed and emerging form.
