Annegret Hoch (b. 1969) and Siegfried Kreitner (b. 1967) always develop their exhibitions with a view to the space in which they are to be shown – in a manner of speaking, they conquer the gallery space with their works, which come together to form a striking symbiotic whole.
Kreitner creates precise kinetic objects made of aluminium, plexiglas and neon that move slowly and often barely perceptibly. Light, colour and geometry play a central role. He himself speaks of “minimal kinetics” – mechanised sculptures that nevertheless convey a sense of mystery.
Hoch’s painting, on the other hand, responds directly to the given space. Her vividly colourful compositions – some of which involve natural colourants such as beet juice or sepia – probe the limits of her chosen medium. Since 2019, her collages, often made from everyday materials such as A4 paper, have grown ever more expansive. As site-specific installations, they incorporate architectural elements of the space in which they unfold.
The interaction between the two artists plays with the dimensions of time and space. While the pronounced slowness of Kreitner’s kinetic works suggest stasis even though they are actually in motion, the sweeping gestures of Hoch’s paintings convey an impression of dynamic movement and energy, even though they are in fact static and immobile.
