Donaueschinger Musiktage - Panel discussion - Theme Music Live: Power structures in the music business

Thu, October 16, 2025, 8pm
Mirror Hall

Since the beginning of the #metoo movement, cases of abuse of power in various forms, and often of a sexualised nature, have been repeatedly uncovered in the classical and contemporary music world. And yet, some may have wished to see new music as a utopia of an egalitarian, power-free space.

This panel will discuss which structures enable the abuse of power and what changes are necessary. The panelists include Merle Krafeld, editor of the magazine van, who has conducted numerous investigations into harassment in the music sector, and Lydia Grün, President of the Hochschule für Musik und
Theater München, who has worked intensively on the question of how large institutions can change in order to offer safe learning and working conditions.
