Emil Kiess

31.03. – 23.06.2019, in the 2-Raum

The Donaueschingen-based artist Emil Kiess (b. 1930) has been a major force within the art scene of southwest Germany since the 1950s. A student of HAP Grieshaber and Willi Baumeister, Kiess is passionate about colour and sees it as the artist's task to set its inherent strength and potential free. His fascinating colour compositions have an extraordinary depth that irresistibly draws the viewer's eye.

Taking its starting point in the seminal work 'Schwarz will blühen' ('Black Wants to Blossom') of 1956, the exhibition presents a multifaceted cross section of the artist's work from the 1980s to the present.
