Ewa Jacobsson - The Labyrinthic Explanation of Knowledge

16.10. – 09.11.2025, in the 2-Raum

The visual artist, composer and sound artist Ewa Jacobsson (*1962) has been working with field recordings since the early 1980s, collecting visual fragments of shipwrecked people at the places where they are found. She uses a variety of materials such as marzipan, electronic waste, rotting objects, oil, steel, wire, photography, film, painting and drawing.

Her work includes site-specific installations, spatial interventions, sound compositions and visual objects with integrated sound sources. She has also been realising live performances for many years. Her works have been shown in exhibitions, concert halls, museums and public spaces - often involving the audience and the space.

In co-operation with musicians, she uses edited field recordings, text fragments, instruments and the respective room acoustics. Sound sources are integrated into visual objects. Riddle drawings and scores made from physical materials function as commentaries and explorations of the knowledge that art accumulates.

The combination of high-tech with low-tech, found objects and waste reflects Jacobsson's interest in conveying existential or political meaning through various media - beyond established material hierarchies.
