Hanno Leichtmann – Seculum Sound Installation

14.10. – 14.11.2021, in the 2-Raum

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Donaueschinger Musiktage, sound artist Hanno Leichtmann was offered the opportunity to use the digitized archive of the SWR as a source for his work.

As with his earlier sound installations and audio pieces, he distills his sound material exclusively from a thematically defined (sound) archive, in this case: concert recordings, studio recordings, lectures and discussions from 100 years of Donaueschingen's contemporary music history. Leichtmann sends these subjectively selected sounds through his unique modular machinery of voltage-controlled (micro-)loopers, records these new sounds and then assembles them in the studio to create the current work. For the most part, Leichtmann concentrates on the original, pure sound of the archive: he primarily uses the classic parameters of early electronic (tape) music - for example, amplitude, pitch and speed, running direction, sequencing and cutting, and above all repetition. But also re-pitching, resynthesizing and a variety of outboard effect devices for analog old school effect chains.

From the archive, a new work is thus created for the 100th birthday of the oldest and most important new music festival.
