I have never before shown the bird cages and animal traps together. If you look closely, the animal traps are on the floor, and it is up to the viewer to decide whether to pull the stick or not – it is a decision everybody has to make for themself. The doors of the bird cages are open. The birds have already flown. This work plays with the ideas of liberty and captivity and with the question of who is responsible for the confinement. People play a very important role here, because they can decide to pull the stick from the trap – or not.
